Floating Away Inflammation

It is now 4 weeks post-op. I went to the gym this morning and worked my legs 30 minutes on the Treadmill, plus 10 minutes on the Elliptical. All at level 3. After that a few leg presses and some lunges. All things my PT told me to be doing. With all of this and the rain coming, my knee was in quite a lot of pain.

After working all day I was very glad I had scheduled a 90 min float at the Float Brothers Float Spa in Destin that evening. If you have never been there I highly recommend it. You are by yourself in a room where you get into a pod filled with Epsom Salt water. And then you just float. Epsom Salt is an old time remedy but works well. It is Magnesium, which is a natural anti- inflammatory.

Over the years I have recommended soaking in a bath of Epsom Salts to many of my clients. One problem, if you are as big as I am, you probably don’t fit in an ordinary tub to well. I was told by Trey, the owner, that I had to wait 4 weeks from my surgery to be sure the scar was healed over. They do have petroleum jelly there to cover it up to be on the safe side. We checked the measurement of the circumference, just above my knee, before I got in. Afterward the swelling had gone down by ¼”. I also had increased mobility and decreased pain. All inflammation around the scar was gone. Extension of my surgery leg looks to be about be the same as my right leg. Overall a productive and great experience. Will be going back soon.
