Current vacuum therapies are a modern use of an ancient tool and possess the benefits of traditional use, along with many incredible new applications. This therapy utilizes glass or plastic cups and a vacuum pistol, bulb or machine to create suction on the body surface. These cups are moved over the skin using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup, and are parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. This suction can reach deep into the soft tissue or can work superficially to pull inflammation and toxins toward the surface so that the skin and lymphatic system can readily eliminate them. Scar tissues often release quickly, despite the age of the injury or keloid tendencies.
One of the most amazing aspects of this technique is the "separation" that the vacuum produces in tissue layers. This enables water absorption and renewed blood flow to undernourished and dehydrated tissue, which is invaluable in pre- and post-surgery treatments. It is becoming evident that separation of fused, congested soft tissue and increase in tissue function can be a catalyst for change in many current health conditions.
MediCupping™ therapy utilizes a machine with glass or plastic cups to create suction on the body surface. Massage Therapists who have explored the use of vacuum therapies have found the addition of suction and lifting to other massage techniques has produced radical results for clients … and getting a lot of attention from the medical field.
A unique quality is the "lifting without force." Even when working on deep scars and adhesions, fibrous tissue, or fascia that has retained memory from the incident or injury, the technique is comfortable and works very quickly.
Having a tool that assists in evaluation and also provides the most comfortable and effective methods of affecting client wellbeing at such a profound level is of major benefit to today’s therapists. The results are often dramatic and visible, since vacuum therapies work nicely with the homeostatic mechanisms of the body. The addition of such adjunct therapies as aromatherapy, taping and magnetic micro-cups can become a complete tool box for working with an extremely wide variety of client conditions.
MediCupping™ differentiates itself from Massage Cupping™ and other traditional methods of cupping therapy. Techniques and theory are based on Massage Therapy and stay strictly within the legal and ethical scope of practice. While every therapist has their own background and education, Traditional Chinese Medicine is kept separate from ACE Massage Cupping™ and MediCupping™ protocols.
The ability of the MediCupping™ machine to control the vacuum and the release of tissue makes it unique. The equipment performs the pumping techniques while the therapist concentrates on the movements. No more distraction of the gun or pump … a big advantage over manual vacuum equipment. Results are easy to document through regulation of equipment settings and successful results are achieved due to the consistency of application. The equipment is fun to use, versatile, and provides a valuable tool for supporting physician-referred patients through injury and surgical recovery.
These techniques are used safely on children, adults and elderly persons. The most common misuse of vacuum therapy is overuse, and to effectively add MediCupping™ to your toolbox it is essential to have thorough training and experience. Those who are ACE Certified Massage Cupping™ practitioners and working with manual cupping sets will integrate the mechanized equipment into their practice with ease, and novices quickly become proficient with proper training.
Athletic Performance Enhancement:
For professional athletes and all active people…
Treatments may be done once for a current issue or can be done in a series of sessions to resolve chronic conditions. Results are achieved quickly, with comfort for the client and ease for the practitioner. Sessions can be from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours, depending on whether the modality is integrated into another therapy or done independently.
Maintenance sessions are a great addition of any training program, with fascial release and reduction of chronic pain and restriction from old injuries allowing the body to operate at its peak level in physical activities. Facilitation of drainage of trapped debris from past events improves tissue resilience, with beneficial effects on event performance and recovery.
Several international sports trainers, international champion athletes and even professional sports teams have discovered this valuable secret for success “on the field”!
Deep tissue therapy - joint mobilization and deep tissue techniques.
Support of medical procedures and surgery for orthopedic and sports issues.
Increased performance and stamina.
The physical formation of “Solid Bloat” is simple; heat from inflamed tissue slowly dehydrates the surrounding lymph, which inhibits normal drainage, circulation and hydration. Fascia fuses together from the heat and the congestion spreads through the upper tissues and skin surface. This inflammation can come from a myriad of sources such as surgeries, injuries, chronic movement patterns, and even childhood diseases and exposure to toxicities.
The surprise for so many people is that they have chronic conditions that may have been caused by something so long ago in their life, such as being exposed to excessive cigarette smoke as a child. There is a whole group of us that grew up in the 40’s through the 70’s and had to endure our parents smoking in the house and car. As the cups move over the back, a grey color can be seen under the skin, and if a cup is parked for even a short time, the discoloration may stay visible after the treatment. The chronic heat in the lungs … from childhood … inflames and dehydrates the surrounding tissue and body fluids.
Examining the natural body reaction to injury or illness, we find that the cycle is consistent. Injury or illness occurs and the body creates inflammation, which brings increased blood flow to the area. This also draws fluids and immune system elements into the region to deal with the condition. The PH shifts to acid and the tissue takes on a positive charge polarity. Adequate recovery will allow the body to shift back to a negative charge in the tissue and an alkaline PH when healing is complete. This action is similar and linked to the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous sub-systems of the autonomic nervous system.
The problem is that very few people actually give the body any recovery time. Therefore, the affected area or system never shifts back to healthy tissue. This can continue for life in the body! Inflammation continues and dehydrates the tissue and lymph. The toxins and debris from the immune system response become trapped in the congestion and the issue becomes chronic. The acid PH of the tissue blocks oxygenation and nutrients, and dehydrated tissue cannot even absorb hydration and nutrition that is available.
So how does vacuum therapy work to eliminate this Solid Bloat and open drainage in the body? The vacuum lifts and releases rigid soft tissue, as well as scars, adhesions and restrictions. By clearing debris, opening drainage, and easing limited movement these incredibly effective techniques relieve pain and enable the body to promote healthier tissue.
It is imperative to use clear cups for treatments so that the cup can become a magnifying glass into the body. Large white deposits against pink skin indicate congestion and “divots” will quickly show adhesions, restrictions and the true nature of scars. The epidural insertion point can often still be seen on women who gave birth over 25 years ago and can frequently be a source of restriction that has spread throughout the back. It is important to observe the colors of the tissue in the cup, and test the skin for heat levels after the cup is removed to assess inflammation levels underneath.
